Days of Creations Project

Pam and Susan from Praiseworthy Stitches have designed this special project called "Days of Creation" for our May 2011 retreat.

Description: The Days of Creation sewing basket celebrates the book of Genesis' account of creation. The top of the basket features Adam, Eve and the devious snake in a beaded and stitched Tree of Life that is surrounded by the verse: "Adam and Eve whilst innocent in Paradise wast placed but soon the serpent by his viles the happy Pair disgrace." There is also a pair of stags on the top as well. It is secured to the basket handles with silk ribbons. When the top is untied and lifted off the reverse side of the top reveals angels (a pincushion mounted to the top) surrounded by a beautiful Duponi Silk heaven. Small mother of pearl stars will be attached to the silk to twinkle there. The inside of the basket will feature a stitched 5 in wide band that will encircle the top then be lined the rest of the way to the bottom with silk. The band features the Garden of Paradise-but not at the fall but at its promised restoration. It is complete with many animals and Adam and Eve restored to Glory. At the center of the Basket bottom we will mount a small circle that will give you the chance to personalize your piece. We will also be stitching matching smalls for this piece-an embellished needle book with a scissor sheath inside, a floss keep with rings that we show you how to embellish, a beaded scissor fob, and a bargello thimble keep. We will also be bringing some small treats for your basket. A waxer and a surprise!

Stitches Used: Cross stitch over 1, 2 and 4 threads, Algerian Eye, Rhodes Heart, Open Herringbone, Satin Stitch, Smyrna, Alternating double backstitch, Rice Stitch, Dorset "buttons" and working with beads.

The project is stitched with 35 count Guacamole from Weeks Dye Works.
